Ella is Here!

Ella decided that October 14th was going to be her birthday!! She was born at 12:54pm, weighed 7lbs 1 oz, and was 20 inches long. Happy Birthday, sweet girl! Here is the story of how you entered the world.

On Thursday night, Carter, Eric and I went on a very long walk. We had been walking a lot throughout the week, and I was hoping it would kick start something. I had no idea it would work! I went to bed that night regretting walking almost a mile and a half... my back was killing me, along with my feet and my legs. I just knew I was going to feel awful the next day. I fell asleep, and surprisingly slept pretty well most of the night considering how bad my body hurt. I woke up at 4:50am to a pretty strong contraction. I couldn't be sure that was what it was though, because I was so out of it when it came on. It lasted only about a minute, so the only thing to do at that point was to stay awake a little while and see if another one came. And sure enough, 20 minutes later, one did. Just as strong, same length. About 5 minutes later, I got up to use the bathroom, and when I did, I felt pretty sure that my water had actually broken. I woke Eric up at about 5:15 and we got moving in the direction of the hospital. We of course had nothing packed, so I had to do that while trying to keep from making a huge mess of my room and bathroom because I was still leaking everywhere! We got our parents called, got Carter up, and finally got out the door by about 6:00. By 6:30, I was checked into the hospital and in my L&D room. They confirmed that my water had in fact ruptured, that I was dilated about 3cm, and we were definitely there to stay! My parents and Eric's mom got there shortly after to help with Carter. I guess it was around 9:30 that I got my epidural. The nurse checked me again at about 11:00, and I was about 4cm by then. But before I knew it, contractions were coming pretty fast and strong, and by 11:45, I was fully dilated and the doctor was called. I had to wait on him a little while, and sitting there fully dilated with strong contractions ready to push for about 45 minutes was awful! I was so ready to get the show on the road! Finally around 12:30, the doctor arrived I was able to start pushing. After 3 contractions and 3 very long, hard pushes, she came!! I nursed her about an hour after she was born. Right after that, Eric brought Carter in to meet her. That was definitely one of the happiest moments of my life. He was so sweet with her, and you could just tell he already had so much love for her without even knowing why or how. Shortly after that, mine and Eric's families came in to meet Ella. I was then moved to my post partum room where I was able to eat lunch. I was STARVING!! The rest of the day was spent loving on our new baby girl, having a few more visitors come, and trying to rest. Carter came back to the hospital that night after dinner to be with us some more, and he sure seemed to love every minute of being with his new sister! Because my delivery went so smooth, and Ella was healthy and doing great, we got to go home Saturday afternoon after only 24 hours. I guess we only spent about 32 hours in the hospital total. Since being home, everything has gone pretty well. Ella is nursing great, sleeping as well as can be expected, and Carter is adjusting really well. Eric will be off work this entire week, and we are just enjoying our time as a family of 4! I will try to update with some more pictures before the end of the week. We'll see if I can get around to it. :) But thanks to all of your for your sweet words and well wishes. We are beyond thrilled with our new addition!!

Ready for her to come already!
Yay! Happy Birthday!!

38 weeks

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along:
38 weeks

Size of baby:
Seriously HUGE! Ha. My doctor guessed earlier this week that she was probably about 6.5lbs. If so, she is already bigger than Carter was at birth!

Total Weight Gain:
As of Monday, still only 28lbs   =)

Maternity Clothes:
I hate clothes right now. All of them. Except for sweats. Which I wear almost all the time.

Gender:
Girl

Movement:
Still tons of movement. I know she has to be running out of space in there!

Sleep:
Depressing. Not going to get better any time soon, either!

Symptoms:
Lots of Braxton Hicks contractions and no appetite this week.

What I miss:
Being able to move, breathe, get in and out of bed, shave my legs, bend down to pick something up off the floor, lift Carter easily.... you get the idea. I am so over being pregnant.

Cravings:
Nothing really.

Best Moment this week:
Just being able to count down the days until her birth. We are now in the SINGLE digits, people!! 8 days!

What I am looking forward to:
Delivery Day! What else is there to look forward too, really? I'm SO close. And this very well may be my last pregnancy update!

Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday we went to the Big Orange Pumpkin Farm in Celina with Carter's little friend Mason. It was pretty muddy, but the boys stayed out of it for the most part. Carter loved the hayride and was thrilled to bring home a pumpkin. They had a lot of fun.... as you can see!

Best little friends...

 So excited for the hayride!

Carter & Mommy. No I didn't stuff a pumpkin under my shirt  ;)
Picking out a pumpkin is serious business.
Just a boy and his pumpkin headed home.
LOVE his little expression in this picture!!

Halfway to 3!

Carter is officially 2 1/2 this week! How in the world that happened, I'm still not sure.

Carter, you are quite an energetic, fun-loving, sweet, smart, funny and sometimes very challenging little boy! You make us laugh constantly with the things you say.

You still love your trains and cars the most of all of your toys. You still love sports, and I think it's safe to say that baseball and football are your favorites.

So serious. Check out that stance!
 Great form!
 Home Run!

You love your little friends, especially Mason and Gavin, and your cousins Gavin and Devin.

You try your hardest to negotiate with Mom and Dad on EVERYTHING. I'd like to say it never works, but I admit that sometimes, only sometimes, it does. =)

You are very sweet and loving, and I hope you always stay that way.... so thoughtful and considerate! You also are still very reserved and cautious of the rest of the world around you. Very often you want Mommy or Daddy close to you in a new environment until you have an opportunity to warm up and get comfortable.

For a little while there you really loved to feel Ella move in Mommy's tummy, but I guess that is no longer cool. The other day I asked you if you wanted to come feel Ella since she had the hiccups, and your response was, "Mommy, I'm too busy right now!" You do seem to have a very good understanding of your little sister though, and I'm grateful for that. It is certainly bittersweet for Mommy. I get kinda sad thinking about our days of just us coming to an end. I'm just trying to soak up ever minute, good or bad, with you before your sister comes, and make sure you know how much I love you. I can't wait to see you with her though.... I just know you will be the best big brother!

Happy Half Birthday, my little man. Love you so much!

Welcome, Fall!

I personally have been SO ready for fall to finally arrive.... for a few reasons. My due date (duh!) and the cooler temps and wonderful weather (duh! again). We had a nice cool front come it this weekend, and we loved spending time outside in it today! I can't wait to do this more and more!

Some pictures of our family trip to the park... fun times!

Stormie came too!

He was fascinated by this bird that had just caught a crawfish, but he ran it off.

Racing each other.
Definitely not the most flattering picture because I look HUGE..... but still cool.
