I have to document this major milestone! As I was reading Carter a book before nap time a little while ago, he got real still and quiet, and got that look in his eye. Yeah, you know the one. This is our conversation.
Carter: "Poop?"
Me: "Do you need to go Poop?"
Carter: "Yeah!"
Me: "Do you want to sit on the potty?" (I often ask him this when he announces his urges, but always receive a quick response of "NO!!!")
Carter: (To my huge surprise) "Yeah!" giggling.
Me: "YOU DO?!?!"
Carter: "YEAH!"
Me: "Okay, let's take off your diaper."
I get him undressed, and set him on his little potty. He giggles and giggles, and I tell him if he needs to poop, he should try to go.
Me: "Keep trying!"
A minutes passes, he's still giggling as if this is the funniest thing he's ever done. Then, he gets REALLY quiet and still.
Carter: "Oh, what's that?" as he's looking down at the potty. I look and see a stream of peepee!!
Of course, I clapped, danced, cheered, hugged him, kissed him, made an over-the-top big deal out of it, mostly just because I was SHOCKED that happened. I was just telling some friends at a playdate this morning that Carter is interested in the potty, but acts like he's scared of it when I ask him if he wants to sit on it. So, I was completely stunned that just happened. He was so excited and so proud! I showed him his peepee that was in the potty. I also tried to let me take a picture of him on the potty (yes, I'm THAT mom), but he was over it by the time I got my camera.... of course! No poop, but that didn't even matter. What a big boy!
I'm so proud of you, Carter, for not only be brave enough to sit on the potty, but also going peepee! WAY TO GO! We'll keep practicing!
